In a region known for oil and gas, the clean energy race is officially on. Across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), governments are pumping billions into renewables. The pledges are loud. But who\u2019s actually delivering?<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t about net zero PR. It\u2019s about real generation capacity, infrastructure on the ground, and projects that are already reshaping the energy mix.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s look at the country’s leading the charge in the region, and those still warming up.<\/p>\n

Morocco: The early mover<\/h3>\n

Morocco generates around 37%<\/a> of its electricity from renewables, hydro, wind and a growing solar share. It hosts Africa\u2019s flagship Noor Ouarzazate complex<\/a>, the world\u2019s largest concentrated solar power (CSP) plant, and is planning the 800\u202fMW Noor Midelt.<\/p>\n

With a target of 52% renewables by 2030<\/a>, Morocco is not just setting goals\u2014it\u2019s ahead of schedule.<\/p>\n

UAE: Capital-heavy and fast-moving<\/h3>\n

Dubai\u2019s Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is on track to hit 5\u202fGW by 2030, with over 2.6\u202fGW already online<\/a>. Masdar\u2019s clean energy portfolio spans more than 20\u202fGW globally, with a target of 100\u202fGW by 2030<\/a>. The UAE\u2019s Net Zero by 2050 pledge is backed by both capital and policy support.<\/p>\n

Additionally, under the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, Dubai is targeting 100% clean energy by 2050<\/a>, with 25% clean energy by 2030,<\/strong>and will support this through projects like the MBR Solar Park.<\/p>\n

They\u2019re not just building locally. They\u2019re exporting green expertise.<\/p>\n

Egypt: Scaling rapidly<\/h3>\n

Egypt\u2019s Benban Solar Park is a 1.65\u202fGW solar behemoth<\/a>\u2014one of the world\u2019s largest. With renewables supplying 20% of national electricity and a 42% by 2035<\/a> target, Egypt is powering ahead. Wind projects along the Gulf of Suez<\/a> and a wave of green hydrogen partnerships round out a strong clean energy push.<\/p>\n

Saudi Arabia: Ambition meets momentum<\/h3>\n

Saudi Arabia is building big: 13\u202fGW of renewables under development<\/a>, including the Sakaka and Sudair solar plants<\/a> and the world\u2019s largest green hydrogen plant at NEOM. But actual renewable generation remains below 3%. The ambition is real, but delivery is just beginning.<\/p>\n
